fuel-cell engine
According to the reading, "Car manufactures and governments have been eagerly seeking a replacement for the automobile's main source of power, the internal-combustion engine. One of the alternative engines is a fuel-cell engine. The author in the reading said that the fuel-cell engines have a lot of benefits. However, the professor in the lecture gives several reasons as a rebuttal to the author's point.
First of all, the professor in the listening contends that the hydrogen-based engine is not available. the reading said, "hydrogen can be derived from various plentiful sources. However, for using hydrogen as the engine source, people have to make it a liquid state. It required a very low temperature. Then, the liquid element is hard to be made and stored. This casts doubt on the reading's claim that the fuel-cell engine will be useful since the resource of the past engine will be extinct, but the fuel-cell one's material is easy to get.
Second, the professor in the listening argues that the fuel-cell engine cannot resolve the environmental problems. the reading said that the past products create CO2 that is harmful to the environment, and the byproduct of fuel-cell one is water. However, for producing pure hydrogen, people have to spend a lot of energy, and it is usually made of oil and coal. This counters the reading passage's claim that the hydrogen-based engine is helpful for solving pollution problems owing to its basic resource, water.
Lastly, the professor in the listening insists that the fuel-cell is not economically helpful. The listening said, "a fuel-cell automobile is nearly twice as efficient in using than the past one. However, the hydrogen-based engine requires some material for connecting to electricity. the item is very expensive. This refutes the reading passage's claim that the fuel-cell is less costly due to its efficiency.
