Question : Summarise the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they case doubt on specific points made in the reading passage
In the reading passage, the author feels that are three possible explanations for the spreading out of zebra mussel can not be stopped and that it poses a serious threat to freshwater fish populations in all of North America. However, finding all these implausible and questionable, the professor casts doubt on what is presented and states some evidence to de contrary.
To begin with, the writer suggests that the zebra mussel's invasion can be unstoppable. In contrast, the lecture rebuts this argument by saying that the zebra mussel are not able to spread in the manner that was showed in the reading passage. He is of the opinion that zebra mussel can not survive in salty water. As a result, he posits that this explanation is faulty.
Secondly, the author points out that zebra mussels might dominate the new habitat. This specific argument is challenged by the lecture. He argues that others fish and bird can change their habits and start to eat the zebra mussels. Hence, he believes that this population will not be dominant.
Finally, the reading states that zebra mussels can cause a decline in the overall fish population in habitats where they become dominant. But, the lecture rejects this by saying that the zebra mussels will no be able to decrease all the fish population, only the fish species that eat plankton.
