The table illustrates data regarding alteration in the way people travel in England for fifteen years.
Overall, people's preference in the car, long-distance bus, rail, cab and other modes seemed to be ascending with time, however, commuting via bicycle, local bus and walking had a downfall. Among these, a car was mostly used vehicle and bicycle was preferred least.
Regarding all the modes of travelling, inhabitant travelled 3,199 miles on average in the year 1985 which rose sharply to 4,806 in 2000. Similarly, the long-distance bus was mostly liked by people after the car as passengers grew steadily in a later year. Taxi also had an increment of 29 miles in distance travelled by an individual. Train somehow had a slight increase, and other modes also had a rapid inclination in demand which from 450 reached to 585 miles.
On the contrary, the usage of bicycle reduced by 11 miles per person in the year 2000. Likewise, walking had minimal downfall from 255 to 237, but people commuting on the local bus almost reduced to its half (to 274 from 429), in the last year.
