The diagrams below show how glass containers, such as bottles, are produced in recycled.
The two given diagrams depict the explicit steps to manufacture and recycle glass containers.
As can be seen from the charts, it is clear that there are only four main stages in the manufacturing process of glass-based products, meanwhile five steps are required to recycle them.
At the first stage in the production of glass containers, three different raw materials, namely sand, soda ash, limestone, and other chemicals are mixed together. The resulting mixture is then melted in a furnace at a high temperature, which is approximately 1500 celcius degrees, until it turns into a liquid. Following this, this liquid undergoes a glassblowing process where it is shaped into different kinds of glass products.
The recycling process begins with the preparation of used glass containers. After that, they are sorted by colour and washed in order to remove impurities. These objects are then crushed into small chunks and melted before being moulded into new products.
