The diagram below show the life cycle of a species of large fish called salmon. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparison when relevant

The given diagram explains the lifespan of salmon, which is a species of large fish.

Overall, there are totally 4 different stages in a salmon's life, starting with eggs and continuing until they reach adult size.

At the beginning of the life cycle, adult salmon lay a massive number of eggs in the upper river where the water flow is slow. These eggs are hidden under reeds and small stones for 5 to 8 months. The eggs then hatch into baby salmon and are identified as 'fry'. They measure 3 to 8 centimetres in length. For approximately the next 4 years, these baby fish live in lower and faster-moving water of the river.

When the salmons reach 12 to 15 centimetres long, they turn into a new stage called 'smolt'. At this time, they beginning to migrant to the open sea where they spend about 5 years living. During this time, smolts grow quickly in size with it size ranging from 70 to 75 centimetres. These smolts are then termed 'adult salmon'. Finally, the adults swim upstream to reach the upper river where they reproduce a new generation and the life cycle start again.
