Grades encourage students to work harder at school. Do you agree or disagree? Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion.
Learning becomes better when a student has motivation and needs to learn. Grades play an important role in the process of learning. I am totally agreeing with the statement that grades encourage students to work harder at school. The following points strengthen my position.
Firstly, at middle school level students are not much capable of analyzing their level of knowledge and grades give them an idea about their progress. Similarly, in high schools or college level students are very busy with other transnational changes of life and at that time the grading system holds them to focus on studies. So, we can say that grades boast students to work harder to achieve their life goals and show their actual position in studies.
Secondly, there are two types of motivation which uplift students to learn more. One of them is intrinsic motivation which comes from insight and another is extrinsic motivation which seeks from the environment. To enhance intrinsic motivation extrinsic motivation helps a lot. Grades are good extrinsic motivation which shakes students' minds to stretch their capabilities.
Thirdly, apart from motivation and self analysis the competition also plays an important role in students life. Grades are quantitative feedback for students' performance. With the help of grades students are not only able to compete with classmates but also compete with themselves. The optimum level to pass a particular exam builds eu stress in students and they work efficiently.
Finally, on the basis of aforementioned reasoning we can conclude that grades really make students work harder for studies as well as for any competition which gives quantitative results.
