Elephants
The reading passage states that humans have several beliefs about elephants that come from their interests to the elephants. The writer of the passage provides some arguments to support this point of view. however, the lecturer finds all the ideas discussed by the reading passage dubious and suggests some evidence to refute them all.
First, the writer claims that elephants become aware when they are going to die. So, they leave their herds and go to the places near the water to die alone. On the contrary, the professor dismisses this idea due to the fact that when elephants become old they can not eat all the vegetations. Therefore, they left their herd and go to find soft vegetations. These vegetations are abundant in places near the water.
Furthermore, the author asserts that elephants can create art such as painting flowers or other elephants by using brushes. Conversely, the speaker underlines the fact that elephants' ears are very sensitive. Humans touch their ears to tell them how to move their trunks. Therefore, they do not create art only by their abilities.
Finally, the passage believes that elephants have fear of mice because when they confront mice they try to go away. The lecturer, on the other hand, makes the argument that elephants react to the mice in that way because these mammals are not familiar to them. However, elephants that live in the zoo do not react to mice like other elephants because they saw mice before.
