Essay topics:

The chart below shows the number of trips made by children in one country in 1990 and 2010 to travel to and from school using different modes of transport.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The chart depicts the data shown for the amount of trips taken by children through a variety of modes of transportation. The above data is shown for to seperate years i.e. 1990 and 2010.

From the above data, it can be inferred that by 2010, the number of children travelling by car to and from the school had increased. But after 20 years from 1990, all the other modes of transportation has seen a severe decline as a preference by the children.

In 1990, walking was the most prominent means to travel either from the school or to it, with over 12 million children preferring to choose it. In terms of other transport, there is a similar number of children preferring to choose either bus, cycling or walking and bus simultaneously, with above 7 million students each. In terms of all the other mediums of transport, there were fewer number of kids who travelled as a car passenger, with just more that 4 million students choosing to travel by it that year.

By 2010, this trend would sway from 1990. More than 11 million students travelled to and from the school as a car passenger. The amount of kids who preferred to walk was about 6 million in this year. Only about 2 million kids preferred cycling as their means of transportation. As for choosing bus, about 5 million children used it as their means of transporation, with about 3 million preferring to both use the bus and travelling by foot.

If you look that the data closely, all the means of transportation have seen either an increment or decrement by more than a factor of two between the data shown for the 20 year gap.
