The chart below shows the numbers of incidents and injuries per 100
million passenger miles traveled (PMT) by transportation type in
2002.
The given bar chart compares the report on the number of people(per 100 million PMT) who either encountered an incident or underwent injuries by five different transportation types in the year 2002.
Looking from the overall perspective, it is readily apparent that the number was highest in both the scenarios in the context of demand response, while the least was witnessed from the commuter rail. However, incidents outweigh the injuries over the given period.
According to the given illustration, nearly 225 million of the incidents were reported under the demand response as compared to the others that remained below 100 million. Also, whilst the bus incidents reached on par with the light rail, at 76 million, the incidents from the commuter rail came out to be lower than half as reported by the heavy rail, at 51 million.
In contrast, out of the total injuries, about 173 million fell under the demand response category, which was more than double the bus injuries(66 million). Besides, with just a marginal difference, injuries from the light and heavy rail were nearly the same(35 and 39 million). However, the commuter rail observed the least injuries, only 3 million fewer than the number of incidents.
