The graph below describes the employment rates in a European country varied by age and gender during the year 2013.
The majority of the employees in both the female and the male group fell between the ages of 20-54 years. The age group of 45-49 years had a little over 500,000 male employees and approximately 450,000 female employees, making this age group with the least difference in employment rates based on gender during that year.
The graph also showed that after the age of 24 years, the difference in employment percentage between males and females increased with age. The males formed the major portion of the working class in this European country with the numbers reaching above 500,000 in many of the age groups. Whereas, for females the majority of the working women were in their middle ages, with almost 1000,000 women between the age of 40-49 years alone, forming the working class during 2013.
After the age of 55 years, the relative proportion of the working men and women was much lower. The reason for this could be that 55 years might have been set as the retirement age.
Overall, a larger proportion of males continued to work until older ages(60-65years) compared to females.
