Your local council is considering closing a sports and leisure center that it runs, in order to save money.
Write a letter to your local council. In your letter:
- give details of how you and your friends or family use the center
- explain why the center is important for the local community
- describe the possible effects on local people if the center closes
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter concerning the proposed plan to close down the St. Victor Sporting Center in our district.
St. Victor Sporting Center is a place that I and my friends frequently go to exercise on a daily basis. We especially love the tennis court that we play every Monday and Thursday. There are so many activities going on at the center that your plan to shut it down affects deeply to our community.
The center is not only a place for the locals to play sports but also a place for meeting and socializing. Besides, built in 1897, it became a part of Laval’s history and identity. For me, St. Victor is an integrated feature of the neighbourhood that we must protect.
If the plan to close the center goes ahead, the locals will lose an important facility both in terms of usefulness and spirituality. Moreover, there are no other sports centers within a reasonable distance, the closure will have a direct effect on local people’s health.
Please reconsider your plan and I hope that you will make the right decision.
Yours faithfully,
Kevin
