The pie chart shows the percentage of persons arrested in the five years ending in 1994 and the bar chart shows the most recent reasons for arrest.
The charts give information about cases of arrests from 1990 to 1994.
It is clear that the proportion of men who were arrested was much higher than that of women. Overall, a majority of both genders were arrested for public drinking.
The percentage of males breaking the laws resulting in arrests was nearly four times higher than that of females, at 32% and 9%, respectively. For both sexes, the most common reason for being arrested was public drinking, with approximately 30% for men and just under 40% for women. This offense, along with assaults, at around 15% to 20% for both men and women, were the only types of offense which females tended to commit more than their male counterparts.
Drunk drinking accounted for about 26% of cases of men’s arrests, which was twice as high as the figure for women. For the remaining categories, the percentage for each gender maintained a minimal range of 13% to 19%. Four percent of female offenders and seven percent of male offenders gave no reasons for their arrest.
