The graph below shows US and Japan’s unemployment rates between March 1993 and March 1999.
It’s important to note that over the period, the unemployment rates in the US had fallen significantly, while the figure for Japan had risen dramatically. Nevertheless, the proportion for US still higher than Japan by just a slight percentage.
Starting from 7.0% on March 1993, the US’s unemployment rates had witnessed a deep fall by 1.5% in just over 2 years. Despite being slightly increased right after March 1995, the figure continued to decrease gradually in the next four years and finally hit the proportion of 5.0% on March 1999.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate in Japan had witnessed a significant rise of 1.5%, from 2.5% to 4%, during the period between March 1993 and March 1995. The figure continued to rise by 0.5% until it saw a sudden decline of 0.5% right after March 1996. However, it had continued to rise dramatically by one percentage to the rate of 5.0% until March 1999.
