According to the reading, there exist several hypotheses that explain how the agnostids live. Though the lecture deals with the same subject matter, it argues otherwise.
The lecture counter argues the text with three main points. First of all, although the reading passage states the agnostids might have been free-swimming predators because other types of anthropods are also outstanding swimmers and predators, the professor states that good vision is important for free-swimming predators so they usually have large developed eyes. Nevertheless, agnostids have poor eyes which almost blind so they are impossible to be predators unless they have some other characteristics that can be used to chase prey.
Moreover, despite the statement that agnostids are seafloor dwellers since other types of arthropods live the same way, the professor explains the claim made in the reading passage is ill-grounded. Sea dwellers cannot move far so they usually live in localized areas without moving to new places. Although agnostids occupy small areas, they spread across large distances of areas indicate they can move fast which is unusual for seafloor dwellers.
Finally, the text claims that as a lot of modern-day arthropods are parasites, agnostids were likely to be parasites too. However, the professor asserts that to prevent parasites from killing the host organism. they have a small population which allows them to stay in a limited size. But every species of agnostids have been found a vast amount of fossil which does not fit the theory.
