TPO 10: Summarize the points made in the lecture being sure to explain how they cast doubt on specific points made in the reading passage.
The article states that wood companies in the US won’t make ecocertification and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor explains that most of the companies in US are going into that field and refutes all of the author’s reasons.
First, the reading claims that American consumers are exposed to so much advertising so they won’t pay attention to the ecocertification. The professor refutes this point by saying that not all advertising are the same in there.
Secondly, the article posits that ecocertified wood will be more expensive because it needs to pay a lot to earn ecocertification and that American consumers tend to be strongly motivated by the price. The professor actually agrees with that but he states that price isn’t the only factor that motivate people especially if the difference is an increase only by 5 precent.
Finally, the reading says that doesn’t agree that keeping up with the development will make good business for American companies. The professor oppose this point by explain that this statement is true and it’s not about keeping up with the development but it’s about competition, because if the market in the US is falling behind foreign companies will take advantage of that and they will lose so much in their business.
In conclusion, the article seems to oppose the ecocertification but the professor thinks that the statement is true.
