In this set of materials, the reading passage and the listening section discuss the possibility of living on the Venus surface. Although the reading provides three theories about this question, the speaker refutes these ideas through a number of reasons which I will describe in this report.
First, the passage points out that the pressure on the Venus surface is at least 90 times greater than the pressure on Earth's surface. So, the human cannot stay on it, and they would crash to the surface. The lecturer, in contrast, rejects this by claiming that human would make a station about 50 km above the Venus surface. If they establish a station flow around Venus atmosphere like bloom, they make a situation that the Venus pressure becomes equal to Earth pressure surface.
Furthermore, unlike the passage which states that the Venus surface does not contain reservoirs of water, and it only contains some chemical components, the speaker argues that it is no problem. The Venus surface contains carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid; hence, people can extract water from these components by some chemical process. Therefore, one extract water when they will stay on the flow station above the Venus surface.
Finally, although the passage says that the sunlight could not rich the Venus surface because the thick clouds prevent the sunlight, and below the clouds, a dense layer of carbon dioxide block the sunlight. So, the human could not get electricity to power their machines and equipment. The speaker disagrees by mentioning that by staying on the flow station this problem is solved. 50 Km above Venus surface, the sunlight reaches the surface, furthermore, the reflection of sunlight reaches the station. Hence, the human can get electricity by sunlight.
