The map demonstrates the modifications of an Australian art gallery in 1950 and now
It is clear that significant changes were made to the gallery, particularly the replacement of the courtyard into some indoor facilities to meet the visitors’ demands. In addition, some functional parts were added to the layout of the gallery such as WC and ticket.
In 1950, there was a vast courtyard covered all the northern part of the gallery, which was then demolished and be replaced by a number of indoor rooms such as children art room and Australian Aboriginal and Australian Art. On the right-hand side of the construction, art forms from various continents were displayed there. In 1950, there were only Australian and European arts, however, the addition of an Asian one is made at the bottom right in today’s gallery.
Looking at the center of the 1950’s gallery, a vast interior area was used to displayed only sculpture, which still remained to present except a ticket area was built at the bottom of it. On the left-hand side, a café, a temporary exhibition, and a bookshop were located there in 1950. Almost no change happened to the left wing apart from the addition of a WC next to the café.
