The diagram below describes how storm water is recycled in an Australian city.
The diagram illustrates the process of stormwater being collected and reused for domestic purposes in a city in Australia.
It is clear that there are five main steps in this manmade process, beginning with water from drains are collected and passed through various chemical steps and finalizing with clean water being stored and reused on sunny days.
In the first stage of the process, the rainwater is stored/contained in the drain system under each house, before being transfer to an underground water recycling plant where it goes through four different phases to filter out unhealthy objects. The biggest things such as plastic and rubbish are eliminated first, followed by the discard of other small particles in the next step. Then water is purified from bacteria and viruses to prevent diseases, before going to the last phase where micro things as molecules and salt are removed.
In the third stage, an amount of 4 mg of chlorine is added to each litter of resulted water. After that, clean water is stored in a chamber and ready to be used. The process ends when the clean water is pumped back to houses for domestic use.
