The flow chart illustrates the consequences of deforestation.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features.
The flow chart depicts what typically occurs as a consequence of deforestation. There are four effects of cutting trees: flooding, degraded vegetation, the reduction of biodiversity.
One obvious consequence of deforestation is soil which has been compressed by heavy logging equipment. Once the soil becomes hard and “baked”, the exhaustion of rain water, eventually flooding, will present.
Another consequence is the reduction of number of roots holding the top soil together. As a result, this leads to the erosion of top soil. Because top soil wears away, pioneer species move in and vegetation is decayed.
The third effect is the increased threat of both intentional and unexpected burning. The remained wood after logging is destroyed and micro-orgainisms that feed on waste are lost; therefore, vegetation is degraded.
Finally, plants have been returning less moisture to the atmosphere, so there is less precipitation and an increased occurrence of drought. This also leads to various results of degraded vegetation and loss of biodiversity.
