Summerized the points made in lecture
The article and lecture both deal with the altruism behavior in which animals sacrifices their own interest for others. Whilst the author of the article thinks that altruism is selfishness behaviour for some reasons, the lecturer oppose the authors claims.
In his opinion, every animal gains some kind of appreciation for their selfless act.
First writer claims that, both humans and mammals is a example of altuism. Futhurmore it stated in the article that humans act of unselfishness range from the sharing of food with stangers to donation of body organs to family members and even strangers.
In contrast the lecturer argue that, humnans receive an appreciation from the society which consider valuable non -materal reward.
Second the author mention about the altruism in meerkats. Then goes on to explain that how the sentinel meerkat gaurd the group without eating and save them from prediators without caring about his own life. However, the lecturer refutesit and argu that sentiels meerkats eats before the others members of group and then stand near the burrows, make an alarm to aware them about preditors but while doing this, it became harmful to the other meerkat.
Finally, the writer assert that the altruism is selfless behavior. In addition, individuals performing altruistic acts gain nothing for themselves. As opposed to the autor, the lecturer holds that indivisuals gain appreciation and non material rewards from society.
In conclusion, although the reading and the lecture both discuss the altruism. The three main points made in reading are effectivley opposed by the lecturer
