The first chart below gives information about the money spent by British parents on their children’s sports between 2008 and 2014. The second chart shows the number of children who participated in three sports in Britain over the same time period.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
The two provided line graphs represent the stats on how much money was spent on children's sports by their parents and the numbers of participants in three kinds of sports in Britain respectively, from the year 2008 to 2014.
It is conspicuous from both line graphs that children and parents of Britain are influenced by sports activities over the given period of 6 years. As both expenditures did by parents and participation by children have shown an upward trend.
The interest of British parents in spending money on their children's sports had shown a gradual increment over the years. In 2008, expenditure on sports activities was only about 20 pounds/month. For the next three progressive years, the increment of about 4-5 pounds is evident. This leads to an increase in expenditure up to 24, 28, and 33 pounds for the years 2010, 2012, and 2014 respectively.
Out of three categories of activities, participation in athletics had shown a considerable increase in numbers over time, whereas, the other two showed a gradual but small increase. The number of participants in football and swimming started from 8 and 2 million in 2008 and increased to just 8.5 and 3 million respectively. Participation in athletics remained steady in the starting as well as in the ending, but, from the year 2010 to 2012 it had shown a dramatic increase, multiplying almost five times, from 1 million in 2008 to around 5 million in 2014.
