The line graph illustrates the proportion of the urban population in four different countries over 61 year period from 1970 to 2030.
Overall, four nations experienced upward trends in the percentage of the population in metropolitan areas and they are expected to reach the highest in 2030.
Between 1970 and 1990, while the US and Korea saw dramatic growth in the proportion of the metropolitan population, the rate for China remained stable at around 20 percent. During the same period, the number of people in India climbed gradually from about 20 percent in 1970 to roughly 30 percent in the year 1990.
From this point onwards, the percentage of the US's urban population has led the way with over 80 percent. As the same as trend saw in the US, the figure for Korea continue to rise rapidly, then they will peak at the same point with 90% by 2030. The proportion of the population in cities in China, which surpassed India in the late 90s, is predicted to reach about 68%, meanwhile, India is much lower at 33% in 2030.
