The bar chart presents the proportion of workers who did part-time jobs in four different nations of the United Kingdom namely England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales in 1980 and 2010. Overall, there was a higher percentage of part-time employees in 2010 than in 1980 in all countries except for Northern Ireland.
In detail, Wales had the highest proportion of workers in both years, at over 30%. There was a similar increasing pattern in both England and Wales from 1980 to 2010. While the figure for workers doing part-time jobs in England rose to over 30%, this figure in Wales went up to 35%.
In terms of the two other countries, it is clear that the percentage of Scotland employees in 2010 registered at 20%, which was twice as much as that in 1980. There was a slight decrease in the proportion of part-time workers in Northern Ireland. Starting at 15% in 1980, this figure declined by 3% in 2010, leading to the lowest percentage compared with the three other countries at the same time.
