Overall, there was an increase in the percentage of part-time workers in England, Scotland and Wales, with Scotland witnessing the most dramatic rise, while an opposite trend can be seen in the figure for Northern Ireland. In addition, Wales had taken the highest place on the chart throughout the period.
The percentage of people who took part in part-time jobs in Wales started at just over 30% in 1980, after which it suffered a progressive rise to about 35% in 2010. A similar change can be seen in the figure for England, which had grown from approximately 25% in 1980 to precisely 30% by 2010.
Furthermore, only 10% of part-time workers in Scotland in 1980, with a subsequent significant increase to nearly 20% in 2010. The reverse trend can be seen in the figure for those living in Northern Ireland, decreasing lightly from around 15% in 1980 to 13% in 2010, just nearly remaing stable throughout the period.
