The chart depicts the various modes of transportation used and the number of trips by students aged 5-12 to travel between school and home during 1990 and 2010.
Overall we can observe that the only increase we can see is in the number of children using cars. Additionally, the number of people who commute by walking has reduced by more than half in 20 years.
In 1990, walking wat the most preferred way to travel to and fro from educational centers and car is the least favoured method, using the bus is the second most common way while, cycling and walking and bus are not that behind with a difference of 0.8 and 0.9 million respectively.
The scenario in 2010 has changed drastically in terms of numbers but, almost remained the same in terms of rankings. Car which previously was the least favoured method became the most comfortable way while, the order of the remaining methods of transportation pretty much remined the same. The only change we can see is that walking and bus and cycling exchanged their positions.
