The reading claims there are three reasons that Chevalier's memoir is not accurate. The professor, however, explains that the memoir is pretty accurate and its information is reliable.
First, based on the reading, the Chevalier borrowed a great amount of money from a Swiss merchant showed he was not very wealthy. In contrast, the lecturer states that it cannot be concluded since Chavalier borrowed money, he was poor. In the past, most of Chevalier's wealth was property, and it take a lot of time to sell and receive cash. Therefore, the Chavalier needed to borrow money and wait for his cash delivery.
Second, according to the reading, the accuracy of conversation between the Chevalie and famous writer Voltaire is skeptical since it has been published many years later and it is not plausible to remember exact phrases. Nevertheless, the man says that the Chevalier each night write his talk with Voltaire and there were many witnesses who saw it. Also, he asks help from consultants and journals to assist him to make the quality better.
Third, the lecture specifies that escaping's story through the ceiling from prison is not possible. The Chevalier had politically well friends and connections that bribed jailers to let him flee. In contrast, the professor stated that other prisoners have more powerful connections and friends that could not escape by bribing guardians of prison. Furthermore, The Chevalier has no chance to run away like that, and also, there are documents in Venetian government written about repairing of the ceiling after he escaped.
