In recent years, depression has become one of the biggest mental health disorders among university students, According to a report, a vast number of students like the man in the picture are diagnosed with serious depression and even commit suicide.

As for the causes of depression, I think interpersonal stress comes first. For example, dealing with emotional issues in a relationship and resolving conflicts with college counselors can be depressing for students. The second cause I believe is academic pressure. A number of university students maintain that their burden is beyond their limit. Hence they fall into serious depression. In addition, the stress of hunting a job and a sense of inferiority may also cause college students great distress.

To cope with depression in college, schools should adopt some preventive measures, such as promoting mental education and reducing students’ study load. Parents should care more about their children and provide them spiritual support. Most importantly, university students should learn to manage their emotion and to attempt to do something to make themselves happy when they are upset, such as doing exercise and pursuing a hobby.
