The pie charts below show the online shopping sales for retail sectors in New Zealand in 2003 and 2013. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words.
The two given pie charts illustrate the percentage of online retail sales for travel, film/music, books, and clothes in New Zealand in two different periods.
Generally, it is evident from the charts that the online sales of books and film or music witnessed an increase over a ten-year period from 2003 to 2013, whereas clothing and travel sectors were in the opposite position. It is noticeable that travel and film or music made up the largest proportion of the total sales in two selected years.
In 2003, travel was the major online sale of the year with 36%, which was 12% higher than the clothing sector. However, over the decade, a fall of 7% resulted in the same sector which became the second-largest proportion of online retail sales. Likewise, the second primary sector in 2003 was clothes, which accounted for 24% of overall sales. The figure saw a slight decline of 8% and was in the last position in 2013.
In the film or music category, the online sales figure of the sector rose strikingly by 21% to reach 33% in 2013. A relatively small portion of online shopping sales was for books (19%) in 2003 which was marginally lower than that in 2013 at 16%.
