The graphs below show the enrolments of overseas students and local students in Australian universities over a ten year period.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The line charts illustrates the admission of international students and local students between a decade period from 2001 to 2010 in universities of Australia.
Overall, a greater number of local students get enrolled in universities compared to the overseas students every year, which inadvertently raised the total population of students throughout the decade. The figures of students commencing each year and the total number of students has minimal difference for international students whereas a reverse trend is observed in local students.
According to the overseas student, a consistent upward trend is seen from 2001 to 2009 where the count rises from just below 20000 to 40000 for new students; meanwhile the figure for total students has drastically shot up from 20000 to merely less than 80000 within the same duration. In 2010, the trend has tapered off to slightly above 40000 for new graduates and the overall figure continued to surge consistently.
Regarding those residing in Australia, the proportion of students starting their education from 2001 to 2010 is slightly below and ends slightly above 200000 with two surges in 2002 and 2008. The total number of students is more than double compared to new graduates and rises consistently to 600000 in 2007 after which the count is seen to be plateauing.
