The graph below shows how elderly people in the United States spent their free time between 1980 and 2010.
The given line graph depicts the activities that the elderly in the USA did in their leisure time over the period of 30 years.
The initial impression from the graph is that while hiking, reading, watching TV and surfing the internet had upward trends among the aged Americans, there was a slight drop in the figures for theatre. Hiking was also the only activity with a sharp rocket over the given period.
Hiking which was among the least favorite activities of the elderly in the United States in 1980s experienced a dramatic surge until reaching a peak of 80% throughout the period surveyed. By contrast, starting at 60% - three times higher than hiking, watching TV was still a popular free time activity of the old in America with a constant soar by 10% over the first 20 years before sinking slightly to nearly 65% in 2010s.
Reading and surfing the Internet gained more and more popularity among the elderly in the USA whereas theatre lost its favor in this country. Over 20 years, reading oscillated significantly until hitting a low by 10% before a sudden leap to 60% in 2010s. Surfing the net saw which was about 5% in 1980s was tenfold increase in the last year of the period. Theatre was the only activity which had a downward trend among the elderly Americans from 1980s to 2010s.
