Overall, online stores' figures were higher than their department counterparts in terms of all four criteria: number of businesses, profit, sales venue and growth. Additionally, it is noticeable that the most significant difference can be seen in the number of businesses between the two types of stores.
Sales revenue of online shops in Australia was 13400 AUD dollars, which was higher than that of department shops (12700 AUD dollars). Similarly, the profits generated from online retailing were also higher than those generated from traditional retailing, with respective figures being 86300 AUD dollars and 80700 AUD dollars.
Greater disparities can be seen how many businesses were conducted in two types of shops. While online stories had 368 businesses in 2011, department ones only had 67 businesses. Meanwhile, the growth rate of online stories was slightly higher than that of department stores, and the figures were 0.6% and 0.4% respectively.
