The pie charts depict how people chose where to stay when they went on vacation in 1965, 1985, and 2005.
In general, the choice of staying at hotels and caravans increased while the choice of staying with friends or relatives and camping decreased. In addition, staying with friends or relatives and staying at hotels are the two most popular choices over the years given, except in 1965, when the most popular choice just belonged to the former.
In 1965, most people chose to stay with friends or relatives, 55%. This figure then declined sharply in the next two years, falling to 35% and 30%, respectively. Camping accounted for a third of the remaining choices in the first year of the survey, at 15%. After that, it saw a slight rise to 18% in 1985 before dropping to 12% in 2005.
In contrast, in the first year given, only 16% of people chose to stay at hotels; however, this choice had a substantial growth to 37% in 1985 and 38% in 2005. In 1985, the least common choice was caravans, which represented only 10% of the total pie chart, and this was a drop from 14% in 1965. In 2005, this figure doubled from 1985’s figure.
