The reading and the lecture are both about the creator of some pieces of photographic negatives. The author of the reading believes that based on evidence, the photographies belong to Ansel Adams. The claims made by the author are challenged by the lecturer. He is of the opinion that none of the reasons explained by the author are valid.
First of all, the author suggests that one of the negatives contain a large pine tree leaning downward, which resembles the kinds of photographies created by Adams. The lecturer refutes this specific argument. He states that the pine tree in the negative is a famus landmark subjected for many photographies.
Secondly, the author posits that the numbers and place names written on the envelops are probably handwritings of Ansel Adams' wife. The lecturer, however, believes that there are some miss-spelling locations on the envelopes which make them unlikely to be writings of Virginia Adams, Ansel Adams' wife. He elaborates on this by mentioning that Virginia had grown up in the city and was quite familiar with the locations; therefore, she couldn't miss-spell the place names.
Finally, the author proposes that some of the negatives had been burned by fire. It is said in the reading that a third of Ansel Adams' negatives had been damaged by fire, and these negatives are probably among those. The lecturer, on the other hand, argues that creating negatives contain procedures that are highly flamable; accordingly, this fire damage could occure for any photographer dealing with creating negatives.
