Every year more and more students choose to study online rather than attend classes on campus. What are the causes behind this? Suggest some solutions.
Online study has gained much momentum since last few decades. It is generally seen that rather than attending classes in educational institutes, more students opting to study online. This essay would discuss major factors behind this and would also gauge some solutions.
The prominent reason behind online study becoming more popular is the convenience factor. In other words, it is far more easier to study from the comfort of home while sitting in the bedroom, especially when the college or university is located at far away place. It not only saves their time but also reduces the hustle and bustle of daily life, for example, students from remote areas need not to travel 50-55 kilometers on daily basis when they can just login on their computer while at home. Thereby, advanced technology has offered an easier access to study. Another worth mentioning factor is that it also saves the hard-earned money of parents. Expenses such as travelling, clothing etcetera are reduced exponentially. Even the dream of getting foreign education could be fulfilled with this approach, to illustrate, moving to other nations involves visa application fees, ticket charges and many others which can be saved by choosing to study via internet, Thereby, most of the students show their preference towards online mode.
Universities can take several steps to bring students back to the classes. Firstly, they should close the facility of online courses, By stopping the trend of broadcasting the lectures online, students would be forced to attend classes on campus. Secondly, to lure students towards physical classes, more facilities should be provided in the campus. Along with this, resources also need to be improved, so that students can feel comfortable in the class room too, for example, providing amenities such comfortable seats, air-conditioning and so on would help a lot. All of these measures would increase the attendance of universities.
To conclude, I would like to reiterate by saying that albeit online classes are advantageous in many aspects, benefits of classroom environment cannot be overlooked , so authorities should come forward and aware students about merits such as learning behavioral and communication skills along with improving academics.
