The graph below shows the average monthly change in the prices of three metals during 2014. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The illustration gives information about the average monthly variations of three materials which are copper, nickel, and zinc every month throughout the year 2014.
Overall, what stands out from the graph is that there were considerable downward trends in the selling price of copper, nickel, and zinc in the first half of the year. Their prices remained static from July to September after increasing sharply towards the end of the period. Another interesting point is that Nikel started with the highest percentage change of the three but ended up in the lowest position, whereas the opposite side was true in the case of Zinc.
Look at the details, as regards Nikel, its payment rate started at 6 percent in January of 2014, and then the price hit the bottom at just -3 percent after 6 months. Having stayed unchanged at -1 percent over a three-month period from July to September, the figure then continued decreasing to -2 percent in the next month prior to ending at 3% in December.
Commencing at the second highest (at 2%), copper saw its most dramatic fall during the first half of 2014, reaching its trough of -0.5% in June. Maintaining constant at -1 percent in the next three months, the rate then grew slightly to around 1 percent from November onwards, which is about three times higher than the figure in October.
As for the last metal, Zinc’s price reached its peak at 3 percent in just the first two months of the year, followed by a remarkable fall to -1 percent in June. The figure rose considerably to finish at 2 percent after leveling off at nearly 0 percent from July to September.
