The charts below show the percentage of water used for different purposes in six areas of the world.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The six pie charts illustrate the amount of water consumption in six different areas, namely North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Central Asia, and South East Asia. The water is consumed in three main sectors, including industry, agriculture and domestic.
Generally, most water is used for agriculture in Asia and Africa, whereas North Americans and Europeans have a tendency to use water for industrial purposes.
Agriculture is the area in which water is utilized the most. Central Asia is at the top of the list, with 88% of water used for agriculture, while Africa and Southeast Asia are second and third on the list, respectively. Agriculture also accounts for the majority of the percentage of water used in South America with 71%, marking the area at the fourth place in the list.
In contrast, people in North America and Europe are recorded for a high volume of water used for industrial purposes, which takes up to half of the overall water usage of each area. In these places, although the percentage of water consumed for agricultural works is high, it only accounts for one-third of the total amount of water usage.
