The graph below gives information about the percentage of the population in four Asian countries living in cities from 1970 to 2020, with predictions for 2030 and 2040.
The line graph illustrates the number of city dwellers in four distinguished Asian from a report between 1970 and 2020, with estimation until 2040.
What stands out from the graph is that the percentage of polulation in all four countries witnessed an upward trend, in which that of Malaysia went up the most dramatically.
Starting at the highest point in 1970, just over 30% of citizens in the Philippines lived in the city. After some fluctuations over the first 40 years, this figure has risen and is predicted to reach continual rise by around 20% to the end of the period. Malaysian city dwellers which ranked second at 30% at the beginning has made a significant progress. It, in addition, is hoped to keep its upward trend till the final year to over 80%, more than double the first-year figure.
Finally, the two remaining categories of inhabitants living in the city of Thailand and Indonesia, which accounted for about nearly 20% and over 10% respectively, showed upward trends throughout the 30-year period. After meeting the same point in 2000, Indonesian city dwellers have surpassed the figure of Thailand and the Philippines, which is then estimated to be the second highest at 60%.
