The Little Ice Age
In the passage, the author mentions three reasons provided by scientists of causing the Little Ice Age. However, the lecturer conversely thinks that none of these reasons could bring about the Little Ice Age. To substantiate his stance, there are three contentions opposing these three mentioned reasons in the following.
First, according to the disruption of the ocean currents, the lecturer disputes that even though the currents indeed influence the Earth's climate, the affected area was only in North America. But the influenced areas by the Little Ice Age include Australia and so on. Therefore, the first reason was not rather convincing.
Second, based on the volcanic eruption, the lecturer positively indicates that the temperature would decrease due to the volcanic eruption. Nevertheless, such eruptions should be visualized by people. There was no any record about the colossal eruptions which were enough to create the Little Ice Age. Thus, the second reason was not persuasive.
Third, concerning the populations of human being, the lecturer adversely asserts that the forests did not have enough to decrease the temperature. Because of the relatively short span of time, the trees could not diminish the greenhouse effect. Hence, the third reason was not trustworthy as well.
