Chevening is looking for individuals who have a clear post-study career plan. Please outline your immediate plans upon returning home and your longer term career goals. You may wish to consider how these relate to what the UK government is doing in your country.
Once I completed my postgraduate study in the United Kingdom, I would take the oath to practice law as a lawyer and become a legal researcher in Non-governmental organizations that work specifically on Women's rights. I want to work in the National Commission on Violence against Women or LBH APIK. I want to bring to light the disproportionate distribution of household chores between men and women in Indonesia, whether this is a systematical problem or simply an epistemological one. Since I want to make this subject my research topic in my postgraduate studies, I would apply the research in my legal practice after returning to Indonesia.
I wish to work in that place for the next three years after graduation and study further for a doctorate. I would have enough experience in women's rights advocacy, but need further knowledge to solve even more complex problems. Afterwards, I would apply for consultancy work at agencies under the United Nations, offering my legal ability with in-depth doctoral research that could explain some of the challenges in women's emancipation today, partly due to the changing arena from public to private when it comes to fighting for women's rights.
