Chevening is looking for individuals who have a clear post-study career plan. Please outline your immediate plans upon returning home and your longer-term career goals. You may wish to consider how these relate to what the UK government is doing in your country. (minimum word count: 100 words, maximum word count: 500 words)
Planning for the career after post-study is very important for any academician so as to persist his/her professional after studying. As Chevening is looking for individuals who have clear post-study career plans, I wish I would be among the individuals who have career plans after studying in the UK and turning back to my home country Tanzania. These are immediate plans in my country after undertaken master of remote sensing and GIS:
Searching for jobs, internship or volunteering in different organizations. After coming from the UK, I will do this so as to share knowledge and skills that I will have obtained from the university, apart from sharing skills also I will be in a position to learn from experience.
Community conservation outreach program. Community conservation awareness is very important when it comes about conservation and management of wildlife, with the knowledge and skills of remote sensing and GIS I will put efforts in educating the community on the clear ways of living with wildlife in a harmonious.
Establish a conservation club. This club will bring altogether different people with different professionals to come together and addressing different conservation challenges. This is important because conservation of wildlife is interdisciplinary in nature it brings different experts together.
These are long term plans after returning to my country with what the UK government is doing in Tanzania:
Land management plan in conservation. Land plan for conservation is very important; I will cooperate with government organizations and non-government organizations like Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) to ensure that mapping of resources, and demarcations of all areas.
Use of new technology in the protection of wildlife. Protection of wildlife requires time and funds resources, with the use of new technology from remote sensing and GIS will improve the protection of wildlife, for example, the use of GPS, drones, and satellites.
The use of technology in Fire management and wildlife inventory in protected areas. Since remote sensors can detect whether parameters like humidity, temperature, therefore, it is easy for managers to plan for fire in protected areas. Moreover, I will cooperate with my government to use images taken by satellite and drones to enhance wildlife inventory.
To use drones in the tourism industry. Drones will be used to take tourists in very remote areas, likewise, drones will be used for rescue purposes, and to achieve this I will communicate with different stakeholders in the tourism sector and the government.
Since conservation of wildlife is an interdisciplinary issue, and not only knowledge and skills from remote sensing and GIS can be used in conservation but also can be used in other sectors in Tanzania. These are other long plans in other sectors like Improvement of the agriculture sector by the use of remote sensors, and in the health sector by the use of the drone to take medicines in remote areas.
