With the population of 97 million and the government’s open- door policy, Vietnam is a promising destination for investors worldwide, including those coming from Australia. In fact, thanks to the shift in production of multinational companies, Vietnam has been witnessing a significant increase in the foreign investment. Many more plants, facilities and buildings have been constructed in reaction to this increased demand, leading to a tough question: how to deliver those construction projects on time, under budget and with a high quality so that both clients and contractors can have win-win relationships?
It should be acknowledged that the expectation on quality of foreign clients is usually higher than that of local ones. Unfortunately, there are not many Vietnamese contractors can be able to fulfill that requirement, or even if they can, the construction cost will be likely to be higher, meaning that if clients want to have a high- class plant, they have to pay more money or otherwise. What are the main reasons? One of them is the lack of professional managers in construction industry in Vietnam. There has been so many instances of companies winning the tenders by giving cheap offers without knowing if they can meet quality requirements or not, resulting in the breaches of contracts and the losses of not only the contractors themselves but also the clients. It is true that the delay of a plant can directly affect the production, causing unwanted results for client, such as the loss of profit or even the loss of reputation. This is just one of many examples of wrong decisions made by project managers of construction companies from the very beginning.
By taking Construction Management Course offered by AAS then becoming a qualified project manager, I believe that I can contribute to the development of not only this industry but also the economy as a whole, bringing the benefit to both clients and contractors.
