It is more important to spend public money on promoting a healthy lifestyle in order to prevent illness than to spend it on treatment of people who are already ill. To what extent do you agree of disagree?
It is argued that government funding should be used for launching healthy lifestyle campaigns rather than treating patients. In my opinion, both should be equally funded by the government.
It is true that prevention is better than cure. If the government focuses on promoting the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, public awareness will be increased heighten and people will break their bad habits and replace them with positive routines. This can be seen in the case of “Eat Clean”, which has been a new trend in recent years. A large number of people realized that ready-made food and food which is high in sugar adversely affect their body and health; therefore, they started consuming organic, sugar-free and home-made food. As a result, living healthy has strengthened public health and boosted community immunity, which reduced the number of ill cases. Therefore, the government could cut down on costs for sick care.
On the other hand, the government should take notice of treatment costs because it has influence over the economic growth and population. Therefore, developing healthcare services and treating patients are necessary. Boosting funding for researching vaccines to prevent being infected by coronavirus plays a good example here. Since 2019, it has become a global pandemic, with over 250 million people infected and over 5 million deaths. In order to reduce the number of positive and death cases, the authorities worldwide have allocated a considerable amount of money for constructing field hospitals and discovering new cures. This is no less important and imperative than promoting a healthy lifestyle.
In conclusion, the government should invest in both promoting a healthy lifestyle and treating people who are already ill.
