Dinosaures
The reading and the lecture are both about were dinosaurs endotherms or not? The author of the reading believes that dinosaurs are endotherms because of several pieces of evidence. The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made in the article. She thinks that dinosaurs are not endotherms.
First of all, the author points out that the dinosaurs were endotherm because they were discovered in polar regions. The article notes that only animals that can sustain their temperature in polar regions could live in such cold weathers. This point is challenged by the lecturer. She says that dinosaurs may migrate or hibernate in such a cold climate. Furthermore, she states that by migrating or hibernating dinosaurs are not considered endotherms.
Secondly, the author contends that there is a connection among endothermy and the placement of and the movement of the legs. She/he asserts that endothermy enable dinosaurs to maintain their physical activity like running, and running would not be effective if the legs are not positioned under the body. The lecturer rebuts this argument. She suggests that the placement of the legs underneath dinosaurs is for holding more weight not for running because of the large size of their bodies.
Finally, the author emphasizes that there is a connection among endothermy and bone structure. She/he states that structures called Haversian canals are usually the bones of endotherms. The lecturer, on the other hand, posits that dinosaurs did not grow rapidly when the climate is cold. She puts forth the idea that Haversian canals enable any animal that has this feature to grow hastily even though the climate is cold or worm, which did not happen to dinosaurs.
