Overall, in the first half of the period, house prices were down in most cities while other experienced a slight increase. However, in the latter half, house prices began to surge in the majority of the cities except in Tokyo and Frankfurt.
In 1990 to 1995, house prices fell in New York by -5%. Similarly, the prices also went down in Tokyo and London by almost -10%. In contrast, home’s retail value went up in Madrid and Frankfurt by approximately 1% and 2% respectively.
In 1996 to 2002, house prices jumped to more than 10% in London, the biggest increase in the group. A similar trend was also seen in New York and Madrid in which prices went up to 5% and 4% respectively. However, prices went down by 1% in Frankfurt during this period. In Tokyo, although the average price improved by about 3%, it was still below the zero line.
