TPO-49 - Integrated Writing Task
The lecture and the passage is about the navigation of humpbacks, the reading states that humpbacks use stars to navigate from one Location to another.
First of all, the lecturer states that there is no connection between animal intelligence and navigation by stars. There are several other animals who also use stars to navigate like birds, ducks etc. Moreover, the ducks are the kind of animals who are not considered as intelligent, still they navigate by stars. This clearly shows that they use their intuition to navigate in night sky and not the cognitive ability or intelligence. Hence, this claim directly refuted the passage claim which states that humpback use their intelligence to navigate.
Secondly, the lecturer mentions that if humpbacks move in straight line, it does not illustrates that their source of navigation are stars. Humpbacks have bio-magnetide in their brain which works with earth’s magnetic field and cause them to move in straight line. This again contradicts the passage point that animals can only maintain movement in straight direction if they rely on stars for their orientation.
Thirdly, the lecture contends that spy hopping is also done by sharks, but they do not use it to migrate. Sharks use it as a tool to hunt animals and use them as their food. This is not in agreement with the passage that spy hopping provide them with information to navigate.
