In this reading, a theory that some fossil structures were created by bees is suspected due to three reasons, which was reputed by the lecture. According to the lecture, the fossils structures were produced by bees.
First of all, the reading claims that no actual fossil structures of bees before 200 million years ago were found according to the history, however, it is explained by that lecture that the body of bees were not preserved at that period. A special tree is considered to preserve the body of the bees and they were so rare 200 million years ago. The number of the trees increase later than that period.
In addition, the reason of the absence of flowering plants is also unconvincing in this lecture. Though the flower and bees have a mutual relationship, the bees still exist even before the flowering plants appears. However, the bees were not fed by flowering plants, but by other food such as pinetrees. The relationship has taken the lead of the bees’ food since the flowers appeared.
Furthermore, the reading assumes that the structures are lacking in special details bees’ nests. In the contrary, more evidence is provided in the lecture. For example, they have distinct chemical composition which is the same as the material that bees use in modern times. So the assumption cannot prove that the theory is wrong as well.
In conclusion, the disagreements of the theory that the fossil structures are not created by bees in the reading are reputed in this lecture. The professor argues that the supposition of lacking in history, the absence of bees’ food and inadequate details are unconvincing according to the above explanations.
