The diagram below show how glass containers, such as bottles, are produced and recycled.
The first flow diagram highlights the process of manufacturing glass containers, and the second flow diagram depicts the steps in which used glass can be recycled to make new items. It is a clear and coherent representation.
It can be seen that, glass can be manufactured by using three raw materials and other chemicals as well, wherein the four distinct stages are involved in the production of glass. In contrast, recycling process requires five steps to turn used glass into new products.
Firstly, in the production of glass container three raw materials: sand, soda ash, limestone and other chemicals are mixed together. Then, this mixture can be heated in a glass furnace at approximately 1500 Celsius to produce molten. The molten glass has been then shaped, by blowing, to create the end products, namely glass containers.
Likewise, to begin with recycling process collect the used glass items. After this, sort them according to the colours, and then wash these items in order to remove impurities. Subsequently, at the fourth stage of recycling, the glass is crushed and melted, and then finally resulting glass is moulded to create new products.
