The line graph below illustrates the percentage of the elderly aged 65 and over in the period of time from 1940 to 2040 in three different countries: Japan, Sweden and the USA. It is clear that Japan is predicted to rise to the top in regard of population aged 65 while the USA is the country having the least old people.

Looking closely at the graph, in 1940, the USA had the most population above 65 with a proportion of nearly 10% and Japan was in the last spot with only 5%. However, after a half of a decade, the USA's percentage of the old fluctuated and started to drop to the number of less than 15%. At the same time, the proportion of Sweden's elderly rise to 15%, became the country with the largest percentage. Japan was still having the least old people with less than 5%.

In 2040, it is forecasted that Japan's percentage will rocket to over 25% after having the smallest percentage for a decade and Japan will have the oldest population. Following will Sweden with the number of a quarter and the USA is predicted to become a country with less people aged above.

To conclude, in the past, the USA took first place of having the most elderly and Japan had the least, however, after a decade, it is predicted that the spot will be switched.
