Robery E. Peary was a well-known adventurer who set to reach the North Pole. Some scientists believe that he didn't actually go to North Pole. According to reading passage, The evidances that Peary used to prove his claims, are convincing but the lecturer thinks these evidance aren't convincing.
First, The reading passage mentions that National Geoghraphic Society put together a committee to conduct a through investigation of Peary's records and equipments. The committee concluded that Peary's claim is correct. But the lecturer thinks that the committee's conclusion isn't trustworthy. Because, the committee spent large money in Peary's investigation and their conclusion is biased.
Second, The reading passage mentions that other adventurer, like Tom Avery, made the same trek in less that 37 days, which Peary mentioned. But the lecturer thinks these two trips aren't comparable. Because Avery had much less food in his sled and also he used airplane for providing food in his trip. Also, the weather's condition was much favorable when Avery had the trek.
Finally, the reading passage thinks that the photographs that Peary made during his trip, prove that he went to the North Pole. This conclusion were made based on the sun position. But the lecturer thinks these photographs don't prove anything. Because the technology is really old and the photos may have became faded and blurred since he had his trip. Hence, the conclusion isn't accurate.
