The given bar charts show the total percentages of Americans who get married and divorced from 1970 to 2000 and the rate of adults who are in marital status in the US between 1970 and 2000.
Overall, it is clear that the number of married couples is more or less double compared to that of divorced ones over the given period. When it comes to adults' marital status, the total ratio of being married is significantly larger than the others examined during the periods.
As for US's citizens, the number of people who tie the knot with their partners showed a downward trend from nearly 2.5 million at the beginning of the period to 2 million, with a constant number in 1980 as its 1970 figures. Meanwhile, there was a slight fluctuation pattern in divorces in the US. It started from 1 million people in 1970 and increased a little in a decade to 1.4 million, and its figure slightly declined and went back the same number of 1970.
On the contrary, between two years: 1970 and 2000, married couples accounted for the largest numbers, ranging from approximately 60 million to about 70 million. In the meantime, those who did not get married comprised of roughly less 20million in both year, which was considerably lower than the data of married ones. Contrarily, the groups who are widowed or divorced made up only less 10 million during these times.
